A popular BMX track at Tregony will remain closed until further notice as tributes pour out for a man whose life was tragically cut short on the course last weekend.

The man, whose identity can be revealed as 52-year-old father of three Scott Carpenter, reportedly came off his bike at Gap Creek Moto before midday on 14 September. Despite efforts to treat Mr Carpenter for his injuries, paramedics could not save him.

The Gap Creek Moto track is a privately owned motocross and camping facility located just off the Cunningham Highway and approximately 10 kilometres west of Cunningham’s Gap.

In a statement posted to social media, Gap Creek Moto announced it would “remain closed until further notice” while its owners prioritised the wellbeing of all involved.

“We’re absolutely shattered and are navigating this the best we can,” the statement read.

“The mental and emotional wellbeing of the family and friends and all those affected, our staff, customers and wider moto community are our number one priority at this time.

“We would like to personally thank our staff, customers, the medical professionals, police, motorcycling Australia and our family and friends that have offered support.

“Thank you for your understanding, and respecting this decision.”

Support has since poured in for Mr Carpenter’s family with a GoFundMe having raised more than $3500 to support his children’s schooling.

His wife Rosanne, who launched the fundraiser, wrote the family was “grateful that Scotty died doing something he loved so much”.

Mr Carpenter’s death has been treated as “non-suspicious” by police. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland are understood to be investigating the incident.

Gap Creek Moto had initially announced a snap weekend closure several hours after the incident occurred.
