It’s been said that romantic comedies are a dying genre as Hollywood is making less and less of them as each year passes. However, older stars like Julia Roberts and George Clooney are championing its comeback and as a result, a movie like ’Ticket to Paradise’ was born.

The theatre-only film follows a divorced, constantly bickering couple Georgia and David (played by Roberts and Clooney) who embark on a trip to Bali to stop their daughter Lily (played by Kaitlyn Dever) from marrying a man she just met and making the same mistake they did. They decide to approach the subject initially with complete support with plans to change Lily’s mind – like a Trojan Horse, it’s described. Accompanied by her genuinely supportive best friend Wren (played by Billie Lourd), Georgia and David soon realise how happy their daughter is and begin second-guessing their plans, which included stealing the wedding rings. It all comes to a head and spoiler alert: everything works out in the end.

’Ticket to Paradise’ was notably filmed in Australia last year despite the film being set in Bali and overall, the viewing experience was a fun one. While it was certainly imperfect and is by no means the best romcom ever made, there’s something electrifying about seeing mega superstars act on the big screen who seem to be having the time of their lives. As a result, it’s entirely worth the watch purely for the enjoyment factor and can therefore be beloved by anyone. However, it’s important to remember that this is not groundbreaking by any means and is instead a purely fun flick – just enjoy the ride and the beautiful, very beautiful scenery.

’Ticket to Paradise’ is available for viewing only in cinemas.
