The Warwick Turf Club was formed on January 20, 1873, and according to The Queenslander on 25 January, a “well-attended public meeting was held in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in order to form a club to manage the racecourse and the future race meetings at Warwick”.

Most of the influential residents of the town and district were present and expressed considerable interest, and it was proposed that Warwick Turf Club be formed, with a members’ subscription of two guineas.

His Excellency the Marquis of Normanby was requested to be Patron and Mr FJC Wildash was the first president. The rules of the Queensland Turf Club were adopted with a few alterations.

This huge milestone was celebrated with a long lunch on the track on 10 September 2023.

It was a warm welcome to the club’s spring racing season, which will be highlighted by the annual Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup scheduled to be held on Saturday, 14 October.

Events for the Cup will begin on the Friday evening with the annual Warwick Sandstone Cup Calcutta, hosted in the Members Lounge at the club from 6.30pm. It’s a fun prelude to the big event the following day.
