The weekly grocery run is a very different experience today than it was several months ago for many local residents, as the Stanthorpe Plaza continues to undergo major $3 million renovations.

Much of the centre’s interior is now hidden behind an expansive wall of white, with Woolworths the only retailer accessible to shoppers.

Today, Warwick and Stanthorpe Today was provided an exclusive sneak peek at the renovation works being completed behind closed doors.

Each of the shops have been stripped bare and several completely demolished to make way for a Woolworths expansion.

Eight new shops will be available for lease when renovations are completed.

Mark Long of Allure Retail, the retail leasing business overseeing the plaza refurbishment, said he expects works will be completed “towards the end” of 2021.

“We’re talking to a few prospective tenants,” Mark said.

“Towards the end of the year we’ll be finished and we’ll have the tenants in.”

Mark said he has received a number of enquiries from potential tenants, including from a newsagency lotto outlet, a phone accessories business, and a food provider.

The sizes of the specialty shops will differ according to the needs of the tenants, and Woolworths will expand by a third of its size.
