In November this year, a Warwick dance club will be showcasing its member’s talent on the stage and are looking for more willing dancers to join the fun.

RISE Freestyle Warriors owner Kylie Wright said the club offers a mixture of freestyle and hip hop classes for young children all the way up to adults.

“We teach many different dances into a unique blend,” Kylie said.

But before starting up this Warwick venture with a friend, Kylie was a highland dancer for 26 years with Inverness Dancing School.

“I’ve done ballroom dancing, belly dancing, ballet, tap and jazz,” she said.

“I had a friend who I started RISE with and she left town, so I’ve been running it for the last four years.”

This November, the team are collaborating with Warwick’s burlesque troupe to put on a performance at Town Hall.

“We would like to see more of our grownups enjoy and showcase their dancing skills like they did when they were younger, and have the opportunity to,” Kylie said.

“It’s a very supportive environment – there are no pre-requisites to join, there are some who have never danced before and it’s also open to people who have danced for years.”

However, Kylie said they were keeping the show’s storyline – which involves more than just dance numbers – a surprise for the audience on the night.

“It’s going to be hilarious and interesting,” she said.

“There is talking involved, it’s not a musical, but there’s acting between the numbers.

“The masterminds behind it are the higher-ups in burlesque – the whole idea is to eventually have more grown-up performers in town having a platform to show people what we can do.”

As a result, the group needs more dancers to join the present troupe of four prepping for their end-of-year concert.

“For the type of numbers we want to do, we need a certain number of people – at least one or two more would be great,” Kylie said.

“It’s a lot of fun, a lot of prep goes into it.”

After last year’s show at Stanthorpe Little Theatre, Kylie said the team were sitting backstage planning for 2022’s performance.

“The numbers are choregraphed in January and we work on it all year,” she said.

“It’s a supportive, fun environment, so come and join our little family.”

The group meet at the Baptist Hall – Wednesdays at 4pm is the kid’s class and the adult class is at 6.15pm, for anybody over 18.

The performance this year will be at Warwick Town Hall on 12 November with an affordable entrance cost, according to Kylie.
