Just four nominations places are left for the men’s district pairs to be held at the end of the month. Nominations will close on 9 February or when 20 nominations are received as this is played in sections.

Currently there are 16 nominations which only leaves 4 places.

Two games of triples were played on Saturday afternoon. Results are as follows – Cliff Jones, Rod Newlands and Adrian Jackson 15 v Rod Crome, Frank Taylor and Pam Moore 14 – Eddie Zanatta, Maree Ball and Michael Sweeney 15 v Peter Balmer, Mary Zanatta and Rob Capelli 8. Trophy winners were Pam Moore and Cliff Jones. Alex Mattiazzi is thanked for donating the prizes.

The Summit Triples carnival is fast approaching. More nominations are needed for the event. It is disappointing that some clubs in the district expect their carnivals to be supported and do not return the favour to clubs who support them.

A working bee will be held this Friday at 9am. There are several things that need to be done before the carnival.

Warwick East Bowls Club

Mark Shepherd, Lynn Collie and Gordon Assay have won Warwick East Bowls Club’s first triples day of the year held on a full green of eight rinks on Thursday.

The trio won on a countback with Wayne Foster, Maree Ball and Joe Torisi as runners up.

On Friday’s barefoot bowls saw two games of pairs and two games of triples played. Prize winners were determined by random selection.

On the weekend the club held their Men’s A Grade Singles. On Saturday they held the section play, with the four winners being Steve Tyter, Peter Collis, Ed Diery and Bill Lee. On Sunday the semifinals saw Ed Diery defeat Bill Lee 25-8 and Peter Collis defeat Steve Tyter 25-18. In the finals Peter Collis proved too good for Ed Diery, winning 25-14.

Tomorrow (Friday, 9 February) the evening bowls starts at 6 pm, with names to be in by 5.30pm. This week instead of the usual sausage sizzle, players will be treated to a platter, which is being donated. Then on Saturday (10 February) the club returns to mixed social bowls, with play starting at 1 pm. Finally, don’t forget our AGM which is being held on Saturday, 17 February at 4 pm.
