HAVING worn out two tyres and 35 inner tubes during his quest, Samuel Johnson pumped his way into Warwick, en route to the Sunshine Coast.
Mr Johnson, an actor, is riding a unicycle around the continent as he raises money for research into breast cancer. His sister has a terminal form of the disease.
So far he has raised almost $950,000 towards his target of $1 million and clocked up 11,350-odd kilometres over 257 days as he aims to beat the Guinness World Record for distance pedalled on a unicycle.
“I’ve got just over 100 days to go and another 4000kms,” he said.
Mr Johnson will travel down the Pacific Highway after reaching the Sunshine Coast, then will cross the Nullabor Plain before ending his saga in Federation Square, Melbourne on 13 February. He began his odyssey on 15 February this year.
He said the public reaction to his ride has been overwhelmingly generous and positive.
“Obviously every community is affected by breast cancer, and I’ve learnt this first-hand,” Mr Johnson said.
“It’s been more fun than I could have hoped for. The people are definitely the highlight.
“It’s such a beautiful and varied country. It’s been an absolute joy to ride through this great land promoting breast cancer awareness.
“I feel very lucky to do what I do, and I wear the pink with pride.”
