ONCE again someone has tried to send Ballandean’s dinosaur extinct.
However Stanthorpe police think the steel and fibreglass structure was probably clipped by a car.
After reports of damage to the dinosaur, a sometimes startling surprise for motorists as they pass through the town, police inspected the stricken sculpture.
The dinosaur sits next to a sweeping bend of the New England Highway in an 80km/h zone.
Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said officers located damage to the kerb and other evidence which indicated a vehicle had left the road and travelled about 100 metres before it rejoined the highway.
He said the vehicle has appeared to clip the dinosaur on the way through, taking off its head.
Snr Sgt Ireland said in the absence of any evidence of wilful damage police believe the act was not deliberate.
He said it was more likely someone fell asleep at the wheel.
The dinosaur has been subjected to vandalism in the past.
