Kids rule on way to school

POLICE will ask children to become “backseat drivers” to ensure a safe passage to and from school.
Children are being asked to monitor seat belt use, see that mobiles are switched to silent, direct parents and carers to drop-off zones, and other safety measures.
“We’re putting the kids in charge, giving them the responsibility of making sure the daily ritual of getting safely to school and home again is carried out,” Senior Constable Wendy Tamblyn of Warwick police said.
“From making sure there’s enough time to get ready in the morning without a rush to ensuring seatbelts are buckled up on the way home, we urge children to take charge,” she said.
“Parents using mobile phones can expect a bit of nagging from the back seat, but that’s a good thing for safety.”
