TENTERFIELD Shire Council (TSC) mayor Peter Petty joined the region’s future leaders last Thursday to provide insight into civic duty as part of Local Government Week.
Cr Petty invited Tenterfield High School’s recently elected 2015 school leaders to visit the council chambers to meet with senior staff and discuss the role of local government and opportunities for employment in the field.
“It was a great morning”, the mayor said.
“To be able to meet with these wonderful young people who will be our leaders of the future and be able to share with them the roles of councillors and the exciting and innovative challenges that our staff face every day was a great educational experience, not only for them but for me personally.”
The eight young members were given a presentation by general manager Lotta Jackson and each of the directors before enjoying morning tea with the mayor.
As part of the celebrations, TSC staff also got involved with the community by volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels for the week.
Local Government Week was celebrated from 4 to 10 August.
