Bony back to the bush

THE 2014 Bony Mountain Music Festival went off with a bang at the weekend, with an estimated 1000 visitors soaking up the relaxing bush atmosphere.
Golden Guitar winner Norma O’Hara Murphy, who started the annual festival – which takes place on her 50-acre property – four years ago, said the weekend exceeded her expectations and praised the weather gods for their kindness.
“We all thought we were going to get wet on Saturday night when headliners Murphy’s Pigs (a top Celtic band from Brisbane) were playing,” she said.
“Everyone scurried under the various corporate marquees we had set up, but the clouds cleared and the stars came out – we couldn’t believe it.”
The intimate and unique event features a huge walk-up program during the week, with a variety of acts, including Ms O’Hara Murphy herself, taking to the stage and keeping the crowds thoroughly entertained from Friday night.
Apart from the main acts, highlights included the Warwick Pipe Thistle Band, Irish Dancers and bush poetry by Gary Fogerty.
The talented songstress confirmed the tried and tested formula of bush camping and catchy tunes would stay the same for next year, except for one thing.
“I think we are going to need more cooks next year,” she laughed.
“The Allora CWA sold out of everything on Saturday – their slices and cakes were very popular.”
A cheque will be presented to Allora Southern Cross Care after a raffle during the festival raised nearly $2,000, Ms O’Hara Murphy said.
