Countdown to carols

Singers perform during Carols in the Park.

AS DIARIES and calendars fill in the lead-up to Christmas, Warwick Tourism and Events chief executive officer Tracy Vellacott is reminding residents to set aside Sunday 14 December for Warwick’s 2014 Carols in the Park.
“Carols in the Park is simply a beautiful and relaxed family night where we can celebrate Christmas and the blessing of living in a great community,” she said.
A two-and-a-half hour program of traditional and contemporary carols will be presented by crowd favourites and up-and-coming performers, with Santa stopping by at 6pm, before the stage show commences at 6.30pm.
Ms Vellacott said one of the biggest social events on the annual calendar was also an opportunity for champion community organisations to help feed hungry families as they enjoyed a night out.
Members of the Warwick Rotary and Lions Clubs, together with the team from Community Disaster Relief will provide burgers, hot chips, a sausage sizzle, fairy floss, popcorn and other summer favourites.
Coffee, ice-cream and a good old Aussie pie will also be available. Children are being encouraged to come dressed as one of Santa’s little helpers in support of the Rotary Club’s Christmas dress-up competition. President Darren Bray said that the Rotary team got a special thrill out of the children’s excitement on the night.
“Even though the atmosphere is always festive but frantic, club members want to encourage children to dress up in their Christmas costumes to ignite even more spirit at the event,” Mr Bray said.
Warwick’s Carols in the Park will be held at the band rotunda on the Palmerin Street side of Leslie Park and attendees are encouraged to bring along the chairs and picnic rugs to welcome the festival season.
Carols in the Park is brought to the community, thanks to the generosity of the Warwick Credit Union, Ergon Energy, Campbell Page, YMCA, APN Print and Hot FM and in partnership with Council and Warwick Tourism and Events.
