Cash promise builds election bridges

Tummaville Road Bridge will be replaced if the LNP is re-elected as part of a multi-million Royalties for Regions package announced for the Southern Downs by MP Lawrence Springborg last week.

SOUTHERN Downs residents will benefit from more than $7 million in funding for community infrastructure under Round 4 of the Royalties for the Regions program if the LNP is re-elected this weekend.
Southern Downs MP Lawrence Springborg last week announced that locals in Applethorpe and across the Warwick region will benefit from upgrades to bridges and water infrastructure under three projects which have been approved for the Southern Downs Regional Council.
He said more than $4.7 million will be spent upgrading five local bridges in the region to make them safer and better able to support extra traffic, while $2 million has been allocated to construct a new Lyndhurst Lane Bridge.
Mr Springborg said another four bridges of regional significance requiring immediate replacement have also been funded through Royalties for the Regions.
“Warwick relies on the reliable transport links created by the Sandy Creek Road, Mullins Road, Tummaville Road and Bellingham’s Road bridges,” he said.
“All four bridges provide the most efficient route to deliver cattle, poultry and grains to the regional business centre at Warwick.
“Construction of new bridge infrastructure will ensure load-limits no longer restrict school bus routes and heavy vehicles.”
More than $500,000 of Royalties for the Regions funding has also been committed to construct a water main north of Applethorpe to help meet the growing area’s needs.
“The project will install a new water main north of Stanthorpe for the area from High Street to the area on Border Road in Stanthorpe,“ he said.
“This will more than double the dimensions of the existing water main extending it to Applethorpe, providing the additional capacity required for industrial, commercial and residential growth.
Premier Campbell Newman recently announced a further $500 million over four years would be invested in the Royalties to the Regions program from the LNP’s Strong Choices plan.
