Swimmers’ uplifting effort

HALF way there but still going strong, that is the message from the people behind the plan to put a hoist in at the Warwick Indoor Recreation and Aquatic Centre.
A swim-a-thon held at the pool at the weekend raised more than $3000 and with donations from other events organisers hope to have about $5000 in the coffers toward the much-needed hoist.
Organiser Frederic Mayer said about 400 people took part through the day in Saturday’s event to raise money for the hoist which will enable local disabled community members to get in and swim laps.
He said while swimmers can currently access the teaching and hydro-therapy pools, the main pool is out of reach.
The hoist has to be made overseas and is expected to cost between $9000 and $10,000 depending on the strength of the Aussie dollar.
While this was the main fundraiser at this stage, all money raised from the Tuesday and Thursday morning squads is also going towards the hoist and donations are still being taken.
