STANTHORPE police caught a driver doing 164km/h in a 100km/h zone.
On Sunday, about 5pm, police intercepted a Holden sedan on the New England Highway in Thulimbah doing 64km/h over the limit.
When stopped and asked why he was going so fast, the man told police that he was “running out of fuel and needed to find a service station quickly”.
Police were unimpressed by the man’s answer and his reckless behaviour resulted in an on-the-spot-fine of $1099 and the suspension of his driver’s licence for six months.
