FIVE years of hard fund-raising work have paid off for the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade, with major extensions officially unveiled at the weekend.
Brigade First Officer Rob Hockings said money raised from the Backburners Ball and donations had enabled the brigade to construct toilet and shower facilities, a secure storeroom and most importantly a training room which could double as an incident co-ordination room for wider emergency services.
“We have had a lot of support from the community and local businesses and tradespeople, so it’s been a real community effort,” Mr Hockings said.
“Our members range from 18 up to 76, and we have both male and female frontline firefighters and support personnel.
“We train once a month and we’ve been doing controlled burns with local landholders – we’re feeling very well prepared for the summer season.”
