SOME of Southern Downs’ most active leaders have been recognised for their work as volunteers in the largest youth movement in the world.
Cunningham District Scout leaders walked away with a number of awards earlier this month after attending a function at Scout Headquarters in Brisbane.
Quinton Stanley and Jenni Holmstrom of the Stanthorpe Scout Group received their diplomas in leadership, while rover Scouts Melissa Wallis and Matthew Osborne, of the Glennie Heights group, received certificates of meritorious conduct for their part in helping their friend, who had fallen from the Kangaroo Point cliffs.
Glennie Heights Scout section leader and Killarney leader in charge Peter See was awarded the Silver Wattle for outstanding service to the Scout.
Vicki Thompson, who co-ordinates major Scout activities in the area, including Swamp Rat and Cunningham Capers held at Leslie Dam, received the distinguished award –18-years years of service to the Scouts.
Collecting the third highest award in Scouting was Eugene Thompson, who not only helps co-ordinate regional events but is the major force behind the Darling Downs abseiling team which takes children 8 years and over beyond their limits and into adventure.
The Cunningham District covers scouting at Stanthorpe, Warwick (Glennie Heights), Killarney and Clifton.
