Adrian and Esme Hobba’s excellent facility of several forges and a pizza oven proved most popular again for last month’s gathering of the Border Landcare Organic Group (BLOG).
While Adrian and fellow smiths hammered crowbars and gardening tools back into shape, two of his grandsons showed that they knew about all there is to know of the delicate skill of making charcoal.
The next BLOG field day, this coming Saturday, August 20, is all about grafting.
Tom Dunn will demonstrate the skill of joining apple cuttings to specially chosen root stock, allowing the apparent miracle of having more than one type of apple growing on the one tree.
Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand and take home their prized new fruit tree.
The venue is at the Dunn’s property, 58 Wallangarra Road, on the outskirts of Stanthorpe.
The day will begin with morning tea at 10 am. The activities will start at 11, followed by lunch at about 12.30. Bring lunch or morning tea to share, cup, plate, a chair and a hat.
Remember to bring along any excess produce or plants for the Bring & Buy stall.
Visitors are most welcome. Information on BLOG activities can be found at www.granitenet.com.au/groups/environment/blog
