Thieves take advantage of the warmer weather

There were a number of vehicles unlawfully entered during the past week in the Stanthorpe area.
On the night of September 20 an unlocked Toyota Sedan was entered in Smith Street and a quantity of money stolen. On the same night a Ford Sedan, again left unsecured, was entered in High Street where a purse and contents were stolen. On the night of September 22 a Ford sedan parked in a yard in Bridge Street was unlawfully entered and some electrical gear stolen.
Shortly after midnight last Tuesday two youths were observed running from the intersection of Railway and Hillcrest Streets after throwing a large rock and smashing the glass in a telephone booth. Sometime between September 24 and September 26 unknown persons gained entry to a house in Caves Road and removed a large sum of money from that location.
Offences against property are beginning to increase with the warmer weather. This is an annual occurrence with petty thieves taking advantage of residents, many tourists, and their complacent attitude to security. Ensure vehicles and houses are locked and secure at all times and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to Stanthorpe Police on (07) 4681 6400.
The extra patrols resulted in a substantial increase in traffic enforcement in the Stanthorpe/Wallangarra area including two offenders charged with unlicensed driving, one disqualified driver and two persons driving unregistered and uninsured vehicles.
