Stanthorpe suffers

The wine industry development officer’s position has been removed from Stanthorpe to Warwick. You don’t have to be a genius to see that most services of the old Stanthorpe Shire will one day be moved to Warwick. There have been whispers of an eventual closure of the shire office at Stanthorpe.
Warwick is to have a whiz-bang children’s playground. Most of the playgrounds at Stanthorpe, including the one for young children, near Quartpot Creek does not have shade cover.
Stanthorpe has five out of the eight councillors who are mostly mute when it comes to council matters. Now and again we hear a squeal out of the Deputy Mayor.
Local Government is a depart-ment of the State Government and is subject to its dictates. Labor Party policy is essentially socialists, centralist and elitist – they know what is best for the people. That is why we have State assets being sold off, Shire amalgamations, protected disease carrying, and orchard destroying vermin, repressive environmental laws and more.
Well, maybe it is not fair to vilify the local councillors because they are between a rock and a hard place; the State Government and an apathetic populace.
