Stop! Time to look at school safety

With the school holidays upon us, a local driving instructor believes now is the best time to look at safety concerns outside Warwick State High School.
Mrs Kool’s Driving School owner/operator Gail Lobley is very concerned about the high school being the only school in Warwick that does not have orange target boards on their school zone signs.
She says now is the optimum time to get these signs changed before the start of the new school year.
“Orange means slow down/danger. Warwick State High School is the only one in town that doesn’t have a target board,” Mrs Lobley said.
“This one is not manned by a lollipop lady either,” she said. “I’ve seen close calls here.”
Mrs Lobley said there was no excuse not to install the target board outside a high school since even students of this age are unpredictable, not to mention the introduction of year 7 into secondary school in Queensland, will make this safety  issue even more concerning.
The Southern Downs Regional Council and the Department of Training and Main Roads are evaluating traffic safety around the high school. A report to the council will occur early in the new calendar year.
