Stanthorpe Little Theatre to deliver Council’s S150 reenactment

Southern Downs Regional Council noted the minutes of the Stanthorpe 150th Anniversary Celebration Advisory Committee (S150ACAC) recent meeting at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting.

The meeting was held on 1 February 2022.

Councillors also endorsed the proposal from the Stanthorpe Little Theatre to deliver Council’s S150 event on 15 May 2022.

Council staff have been liaising with representatives from the Stanthorpe Little Theatre in relation to a proposal for the delivery of a re-enactment event on behalf of Council.

A concept proposal from the Little Theatre was tabled with the minutes from the S150ACAC meeting on 11 January 2022, considered by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 27 January 2022.

The Manager Community and Cultural Services and Director Corporate and Community Services subsequently met with the Mayor and Councillors after the Council meeting to discuss the S150ACAC and provided an overview of the Little Theatre proposal. The proposal was forwarded to the Mayor and Councillors for comment.

Council has previously endorsed two recommendations in relation to undertaking a Council event for S150.

The first, at a meeting on 26 May 2021, stated that Council be invited to host a mock Council meeting in the Stanthorpe Civic Centre based on historical topics from 150 years ago, in period costume, as a Council event to celebrate the Stanthorpe 150th Anniversary in 2022

The second, at a meeting on 24 November 2021, stated that Council undertakes a re-enactment in period costume on Sunday, 15 May 2022, which will also be held and coincide with a picnic in the park.

Mayor Vic Pennisi joked in last week’s meeting that councillors would need as much notice as possible so that male councillors could grow out their beards.

The motion was moved by Councillor Cameron Gow and seconded by Councillor Marco Gliori.
