DES information available

The recent campaign for DES (diethylstilboestrol) Awareness Week June 1-7 raised awareness of the anti-miscarriage drug, DES, given to women during pregnancy from 1938 to 1971 (and sometimes beyond). Women given DES and their children of that pregnancy are at higher risk of certain types of cancer and reproductive problems. There are about 740,000 DES exposed Australians, yet many are unaware of the fact and the potential adverse health effects. It is important that people with known or suspected exposure to DES are aware of the vital special care they need. A global DES health survey to include Australians affected by DES is currently being conducted in USA. To participate, go online before the June 15 deadline at www.desaction.org Support group contact: DES Action Australia – NSW 02 9875 4820. Website:
