Pirates are coming to Channon’s

Samuel (Martin Balkwill), Mabel (Katherine Ross) and Major General Stanley (Lee Williams) lie in wait.

The Granite Belt Choir’s concert performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ is taking shape, as pirates, police and beautiful maidens continue to arrive in Stanthorpe.
The show, in the Swigmore Hall at Robert Channon Wines at 2.30 on Saturday, August 11, will feature Lee Williams as the Major General, John Arlidge as the Pirate King, Ross Johnson as the Sergeant of Police, Katherine Ross as the heroine Mabel, Jenel Hunt as Ruth and Robert Channon as Frederic.
The show is crammed with favourite songs. The Pirate King will live and die a Pirate King, the Policeman’s lot will still not be a happy one and the Major General will, as always, be ‘the very model of a modern Major General’. Add Gilbert’s very funny words and you have an afternoon of musical mayhem.
Tickets are $20 including a glass of wine in the interval. A $25 buffet lunch is being served in the winery’s Singing Lake Café beforehand. For bookings and inquiries, call Robert Channon Wines on 4683 3260.
To help you get into a hearty spirit, we have found some old-fashioned pirate recipes to try if you dare.
