The Loose Screws raising funds for cancer research

Stanthorpe locals Wade Gannon and Larry Paramonoff consider themselves “your typical Aussie blokes” and like typical Aussie blokes, they’ve been impacted by cancer.

In early 2022, Wade’s Mum received a sudden and unexpected leukaemia diagnosis. Unfortunately, there have been another four cancer diagnoses in Wade and Larry’s immediate family alone.

They say this statistic is all too typical, and they want to do their part to make a change.

The two men have teamed up to take part in the Mystery Box Rally, set to take place from 12 to 16 August in Bundaberg next year.

The Mystery Box Rally is considered the “mad baby brother” of the Sh*tbox Rally and is smaller and shorter than its older brother. Teams have no idea where they’re heading but are sure to have a unique adventure.

Wade and Larry will leave Bundaberg and travel for five days.

While in the Shi*tbox Rally cars have to be under a certain value, in the Mystery Box Rally cars have to be at least 25 years old and must be 2WDs.

Wade said seeing what his mum has gone through prompted him to join the rally.

“We’ll do our best to raise money for the cause.”

Both men love cars and are looking forward to the adventure.

They say it will be pretty full on, with expected flat tires and some “dodgy fix-ups”.

Wade and Larry have signed up for the rally under the name The Loose Screws.

They will have to raise a minimum of $4000 to be eligible for the rally but want to raise more.

A minimum of 80 per cent of all funds raised goes towards the Cancer Council, which puts the funds towards groundbreaking cancer research projects at The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Wade and Larry have a number of ideas for fundraising and will be rolling them out over the next year.
