Creepy crawlies on show at Eukey

Ever wondered what makes those strange noises at night, and what really lives out in the bush around your place?

Coming up in early February, Stanthorpe Landcare will be working with a numberof organisations including the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee (QMDC) to undertake some “on farm” biodiversity surveys. The surveys culminate with a FarmEcology “show and tell” event to give landholders some insights into the plants, animals, reptiles and other ‘critters’that exists on their properties.

Stanthorpe Landcare CoordinatorHarley West said the upcoming event was a fantastic opportunity to show landholders what they found during the fauna survey, as well as talk about biodiversity and landscape scale planning for greater sustainability.

“In the past, we have found everything from blue-bellied black snakes to microbats and antechinus, so you never know what will turn up in the Eukey area,” Harley said.

The show and tell event will be held at the Eukey Hall, from 4.30pm on Friday, February 8. The evening will wrap up at 7pm with a barbecue dinner.

According to Harley, Landcare carry out these activities with Balance! Environmental Consultant Ecologist Greg Ford and staff from QMDC.

“We make sure we have all the necessary permits in hand. We also ensure all fauna is released unharmed back into the landscape,” he said.

“We are also looking forward to working with students from Ballandean State School during the week, too, and showing them what we have caught.

“The “show and tell” evening is a great opportunity for the whole family to come out and see what lives on their properties and backyards, and to discover what landholders and community members can do to maintain develop healthy habitats for these critters.”

Harley also said that while the event is aimed at the landholders around the Eukey are, all landholders are invited and welcome. Just call me on 0427 500 192 and leave a message so that we can cater for you and your family.

For more information or to RSVP to the event contact Harley West on 0427 500 192 or Pippa Bagshaw on 07 4671 7900.
