McKILLOP CONTINUES EXCELLENT FORM
The Southern Downs Rifle Club members met at the Risdon Rifle Range 500 yard mound on Sunday for their regular weekly comepitition shoot.
Conditions were fine and warm with a heat mirage posing a challenge many of the shooters. These condition proved no obstacle for Richard McKillop who has been in outstanding form in recent weeks and on Sunday put down another perfect score in Open class.
Daryl Reck looked to be the man to beat in the Standard class and claimed another victory. The popular sporter/ hunter class once again proved popular. Showing his liking for this class was Gary Snelling who claimed top spot again.

OLLERTON TOPS LEADER BOARD
The Meat House on Pratten sponsored the Warwick Sporters comepitition last week and the roll up was impressive. Of the 72 golfers who hit the Warwick course for the weekly round it was Grant Ollerton who was hitting the ball best. He finished at the top of the leader board with 40 points.
Brett Sturgess returned to the playing ranks after suffering a recent injury. In an excellent return performance, Sturgess finished runner up to Ollerton with a score of 39 points.
Collecting balls in the run down were Trevor Davies and Gary Russell-Sharam (38). Greg Carey made good use of his new driver and scored 37 points.
Greg Wallace, Trevor King, Craig Burgess, Ray Dudley and Ross Hetherington all finished on 36 points. After a countback, Sam McLennan and Jesse Harris rounded things out scoring 35 points.
Grant Ollerton picked up $25 at the Pro Pin at the 13th.While Garry Adcock collected $20 and Doug Rickert $15.
On song with the NTP”S were Danny Lyons (5th), Mark Paroz (7th), Grant Ollerton (9th), Doug Wilson (11th) and Mark Simmonds (16th).
A reminder to all golfers that your annual subscription for the parent Club must be paid by 31 January. Any unfinancial member will be ineligible to win any competition games.

VISITORS WECLOMED TO STANTHORPE CLUB
Stanthorpe Bowlers played Social Bowls Pairs on Wednesday and were joined by visiting bowler Ray Weavers and Noala Trollip. Weavers played with Gazza Trevena and the pair proved to be too strong for Ray Rankin and Dot Rankin finishing the game convincing 30-10 Noala Trollip, Marg Harvey and David Rose had a one shot win over Colin Denning, Polly Lay and Brian Brown in their Triples game.
On Thursday night Twilight Bowls at the club drew another excellent crowd and four games of Triples were played.
The team skipped by Greg Hammond scored a 12-7 win over Rocky Thompson and his team. David Roses led his team to a one shot win over Peter Smith and his team. The score 12-11. Ray Weavers retuned for Twilight bowls and skipped his team to a 14-10 win over Brian Brown’s team.
In somewhat of an upset Santo Cavallaro’s and his crew defeated Gazza Trevena’s lot 11-7
Twilight Bowls is on again tonight (Thursday 19/1) and begins at 6.30pm, Experienced bowlers, new bowlers and newcomers to the game are all very welcome.
Please call the Club on 46811276 on the day between 5.30pm and 6pm to register your name/s or simply be at the Club by 6pm and you will be slotted into a team.
Bowls can be provided if required. The bar will be operating, and music will hit the airwaves during the evening.

Three games of Social Bowls were played on Saturday (14/1).
Noala and Basil Trollip and Brian Brown scored a comfortable 20-12 win over Helen Jones, Robyn Smith and Peter Smith.
Ray Rankin, Polly Lay and Wendy Hurnall also had a comfortable win in their game against Robyn Rose, Bruno Stefanon and David Rose. The final score 27 – 17.
In the final game Col Denning, Dot Rankin and Greg Hammond proved to be too strong for the combination of Cathy Stefanon, N Benson and Gazza Trevena and won the game 29-16.

STANTHORPE MALLET PLAYERS RETURN TO COURT
The Stanthorpe Mallet players returned to the court last week after their holiday break. The Association group were the first to swing into action on last week playing on Tuesday (10/1).
Jenny Tunbridge played her usual accurate game in a game against Pauline Smith and Joy Newman.
Tunbridge led by one hoop for most of the game. It was an entertaining game. Smith managed one peel and one double but at the back end of the game Smith and Newman faltered and Tunbridge managed to score three peels and one double. The final score Turnbridge 26 – Smith and Newman 17.
(What is a Peel – One ball after the other pass through the hoop. What constitutes a double – both balls on a single stroke pass through the hoop.)
The Golf Croquet players welcomed two visitors to their Wednesday (11/1) games. Bev Sullivan was joined by her grandson, Beau, who is possibly the youngest Golf Croquet player to grace the court in Stanthorpe. The other visitor Kim Steele.
Liz Ellway and Jennifer Gleadhill both scored six hoops against the winning team of Beau and Bev Sullivan. The youngster showed a talent for the game and scored three hoops while Bev Sullivan scored 11 hoops including a hole in one.
Meanwhile Di Wren played Kim Steele and Shirley Page. Wren played well scoring 14 hoops, Her opponents managing only seven hoops.
In the final game the Sullivans and Jennifer Gleadhill combined to play Pauline Smith Di Wren and Kim Steele. The Sullivans and Gleadhill falling two hoops short. The final score 9-7 to Smith Wren and Steele.
The week wrapped up with Gateball games on Friday (13/1).
Sharyn Roser and Pauline Smith played against Les Williams and Joy Newman, winning the first three games. The score in Games one and two 13-7. There was one Agari scored in both games. (Agari is hitting the centre pole after successfully completing gate three. The ball then goes out of play). The score in Game three was much closer with only one point separating the teams. The score 10-9.The final game was won by Williams and Newman who found form late in the day. The final score 18 – 13. The game included two Agaris scored by the Williams/Newman combination and one Agari to their opponents.
PLENTY HAPPENING IN CLIFTON
On Saturday a small group of Clifton Bowlers played a social comepitition.
Although the actual scores are unavailable it is understood that A Imhoff, D Smith and D Hughes defeated J Keleher, A Larkin and G Jago by a narrow margin.
Nominations are now being taken for the A Grade and B Grade Singles and close on 25 February. A $3 nomination fee applies.
The Play or Forfeit rule will apply – Exceptions may apply and in the case of exceptional circumstances will be at the discretion of the Games Director.
The first round of the B Grade championship will be played on Saturday 11 March and the
A Grade Saturday 22 April and Sunday 23 April.
Members are reminded that the green will be closed for scheduled renovations from January 26 until 16 February.
Members should also have 5 March noted in their diaries – The Club AGM at 11am.
Nominations for committee positions can be accepted from 5 – 19 February. Nominations can only be accepted from full financial members. The AGM will be followed by lunch and an afternoon of bowls.
This Friday, the club ladies are catering for a private function during the day and would appreciate assistance from anyone is available to lend a hand. Please contact Necia if you are available to help.

CROQUET PLAYERS ON COURT
The Warwick Croquet players returned after the Christmas break with a small group playing association Croquet on Tuesday (3/1 and 10/1 ) while the Golf Croquet group returned on last Thursday (12/1).
In the Association games on 3rd January, Tony Hinde and Trish Davey played Margaret Lawton and scored a 19-7 win. Dorothy Gartery also had a comfortable win over Lesley Grayson. The final score 19-12.
In the games played last week (10/1) Jill Birtwistle and Margaret Lawton finiehd the game tied at nine all.
Congratulations to Tony Hinde who Pegged out on 26 in his game against Dorothy Gartery and Lesley Grayson who scored 12.
There was a good roll up for Thursday’s opening games of Golf Croquet. Robyn Luck none of her touch over the break scoring the first hole in one of the season among the Golf Croquet players.

BACK ON THE GREEN AT WARWICK EAST
Warwick East bowlers played six games of mixed social bowls on Saturday.
The overall winner was Ed Diery, runner-up was Gunter Nicklich and third placing filled by Ralph Tate.
The attempt at the jackpot was unsuccessful. There is now almost $200 in the kitty for future attempts.
Bowlers, please note that from next Saturday(21/1), mixed social bowls begin at 6pm. Please call the club (07 4661 9050) by 5.30pm to submit your name. There will be two games, with a sausage sizzle between games.
The club will hold their usual monthly pairs comepitition next Thursday (Australia Day 26 January). Play starts at 10am.
In keeping with Australia Day, lunch will consist of traditional Aussie fare.
The following Thursday, 2nd February is the club’s regular monthly triples competition.
The Warwick East AGM has been scheduled for Saturday 4 March. Now is the time for members to consider nominating for positions on the Board of Management. Nomination forms can be obtained from the club secretary, Gloria Brady.
A reminder that membership fees are due. Members are asked to attend to payment of their dues asap as the club is required to submit their returns to Bowls Queensland in the near future.
