People who think line fancing means just stepping sideways and clapping to traditional country and western music are in for a revelation.

Hundreds of top line dancers from all over Queensland and New South Wales will be boot-skooting into Warwick to show us all how it is really done – and the Warwick hotels are already booking out to accommodate them.

The all-day event on Saturday 25 February runs for seven hours from 10am to 5pm at St Mark’s Hall in Wood St.

Admission for spectators is $5.

Teams of dancers will demonstrate not only the high-level skills required for many of the sets, but also the diversity of the modern repertoire.

The music will not be cliché country and western tunes, but works spanning all genres from Kylie to Keith, Beethoven to the Beatles, pop to rock, jazz to classics.

“It will be a real eye-opener and something to see,” said top Warwick line dancer Jenny Heffernan, who is organising the event.

Jenny joined the Warwick group 34 years ago and has been a teacher for the past 28 years.

“I just absolutely love Line Dancing and I hope the event will inspire anyone thinking of having a go,” she said.

“I hope people come and see what great fun it is and how inclusive it is. Line Dancing is for everyone, young or old, male or female, experienced or raw beginner.”

The Warwick Line Dancing Club meets at St Mark’s Hall in Wood St every Thursday from 6pm to 9pm and every Monday from 1-3pm. It costs $10 per session.
