Male choir’s free visit

By JONATHON HOWARD

WARWICK residents will be treated to a free concert by the Brisbane Festival Male Voice Choir in the Town Hall this Saturday, 27 April.
Founded in 1954, the choir is now a team of just over 50 men who love to sing – and they do it for free.
The Brisbane Festival Male Voice Choir is associated with a number of similar choirs in the United Kingdom.
The choir is made up of men from a variety of professions and trades from a variety of Christian denominations who love to sing music which glorifies God.
Their repertoire ranges from traditional hymns to modern Christian music, together with other vocal and instrumental items.
The choir presents regional festivals throughout south eastern Queensland and this year they are performing in Warwick.
They are presenting just one concert at 3pm in the Town Hall on 27 April.
Choir chairman, Malcolm Arnold, said the men just loved to sing.
“Admission is free and there is no need to book,” he said.
Mr Arnold explained that the Male Voice Choir movement began in Scotland in the mid-1930s and had spread to various parts of the world since.
“Choirs associated with the Festival Male Voice Choir movement can be found in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Bundaberg and there are moves afoot to start one in Toowoomba, where a group of men have already come together for their first rehearsals,” he said.
The concert being presented in Warwick will last about 90 minutes and include choral items, instrumental and vocal items.
The audience will be invited to make a donation to help cover expenses.
