Junior league on a high

Heading for the tryline - the under seven's were full of enthusiasm despite the heat during Saturday's Junior League trial games hosted by the Eastern Suburbs Hornets.

Junior Rugby league is alive and well and growing well according the Eastern Suburb’s Rugby Leagues Club president Sam Beckhouse.

Beckhouse she was delighted with the roll up to the Club’s Junior League Trial games at the Hornet’s headquarters at the weekend.

Speaking from the comms box where she was busy handling what seemed to be a mountain of jobs she said they had received a lot of support for the trials.

“We have received great support from the Tenterfield Tigers and Souths Tigers (Toowoomba),” Beckhouse said.

“There are teams playing this morning from Under 6’s all the way through to 17’s in boys and girls.”

“We are really pleased with the way our season is shaping up.

“We have our highest ever numbers in the 6’s-12’s.

“It shows how popular Junior Rugby League is.”

The club is still accepting registrations and with each registration Junior players receive shorts, socks and a training shirt.

The President said the club is in a “really positive space at the moment” and everyone is very excited to have a senior men’s team competing in the 2023 BRL competition.

“It is the first time the club has field a Men’s side since 1985,” she said.

The Under17’s Hornet’s boys had a solid hit out against Tenterfield and scored a convincing 44-28 win which pleased their coach, Aaron Beckhouse.

The Under 17 team which played on Saturday was:-

The Warwick and District Junior League competition does not begin until 1 April but judging by the number of players and spectators at Saturday’s trail games interest in season 2023 is high.
