Ten things to do on the Southern Downs this Easter.

Get ready for some Easter Fun on the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.

Looking for things to do this Easter? The Southern Downs Regional Council has compiled a comprehensive list.

1. Visit Southern Downs Regional Libraries in Warwick, Stanthorpe, and Allora to hunt for Easter treasure, guess the number of eggs in the bottle, pick up take and make craft packs to work on at home, and discover all the other Easter fun.

2. Eat chocolate Easter eggs at Queen Mary Falls. There’s no need to feel guilty. You can burn them off with a walk on the Cliff Circuit or Queen Mary Falls Circuit. If you’re keen, do both! Keep an eye on the canopy, you might just spot a koala snoozing in the fork of a tree.

3. Celebrate the European culinary heritage of the Southern Downs by creating traditional Easter fare like colomba pascal from Italy and simnel cake from Great Britain.

4. Fill your Easter basket with your favourite locally produced gourmet delicacies and beverages and gather your favourite people together for a picnic on the bank of Dalrymple Creek in Goomburra National Park.

5. Catch and eat fish at Connolly Dam on Good Friday. The dam is stocked with golden perch, Murray cod and silver perch.

6. Wear an Easter bonnet for a selfie at the Mary Poppins House in Allora. This heritage listed house was the former home of PL Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. It was built in 1879 when bonnets were one of the most common types of hat worn by women.

7. Wear your bunny slippers for an overnight stay in Stanthorpe, the long-term record holder for the lowest Queensland temperature ever seen on a thermometer, −10.6 °C on 23 June 1961.

8. Bake hot cross buns in a campfire Dutch oven in Washpool Camping Reserve at Leslie Dam.

9. Organise an Easter parade for your neighbourhood. Sure, it’s a New York tradition to have a strolling procession on Easter Sunday, but parades are a lot of fun and this is a great way to catch up with all the new friends you made on Neighbour Day.

10. Fossick for Easter gold at Thanes Creek near Leyburn.
