The Southern Downs is one of 21 Queensland Local Government areas that will share in $2.5 million disaster recovery funding.

The Locally Led Economic Recovery Program aims to help regions impacted by rainfall and flooding events between 22 February and 5 April last year.

Up to $250,000 will be available to councils in affected areas through the Commonwealth and State Disaster jointly funded Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) but there’s not much time left for the paperwork to be lodged. Applications close on 27 April. Once successful in gaining the funds, the councils will have until June next year to spend the money.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Di Farmer said the State Government had consulted with the councils late last year and they had indicated they would like to use the funds to continue existing projects and undertake new campaigns including shop local gift card schemes, business improvement programs, events, and outdoor trade activation.

The funds can be used to promote local small businesses, attract tourists, encourage locals to be tourists in their own region and to shop locally.
