The Tenterfield Tigers and Texas Terriers both scored good wins in round five of the Border River League.

Tenterfield hosed the Stanthorpe Gremlins at Rugby League Park.

The Tigers have had an uncharacteristically slow start to the season but on Saturday showed glimpses of better form with a 26-10 win over the in-form Gremlins.

Tenterfield 26 (Wayne Brown 2, Cassidy Thrift, Jack Thomas, Jarrod McIntosh tries Tyler Sargeant 3 goals) defeated Stanthorpe 10 (Dale Perkins, Jake Burnell tries Jake Burnell goal)

In Texas at Reg Saunders Oval, the Terriers added another win to their 2023 season when they comfortably accounted for the Eastern Suburbs Hornets. Despite the 40-10 scoreline this was a spirited game.

Texas 40 (Malik Woodbridge 2, Tristan Kerwick, Jason Bahnisch, Clayton Syme, Bennett Sutton, Mitchell Draby tries Cameron Sweedman 5 goals) d. Eastern Suburbs 10 (Cameron Martin-Brown, John Trindall tries Matt Marshall goal)

Due to unforeseen circumstances the MacIntyre Warriors, who were scheduled to host the Inglewood Roosters, forfeited the game.

Inglewood heads the BRL leaderboard with 10 points ahead of Texas, the defending premiers alongside the Gremlins, both on six points, followed by Tenterfield on four points.

The Tenterfield League Tag ladies continued their unbeaten run on Saturday proving too strong for the Gremlins’ girls. The final score 28-6

In Texas the Foxy Terriers found the Eastern Suburb Hornets had too much sting and were beaten 24-8.

Details of try scorers from these games are unavailable.

The McIntyre Ladies team also forfeited their game against Inglewood Ladies.

At the end of round five, the unbeaten Tenterfield ladies head the standing with 10 points ahead of Eastern Suburbs (8) Inglewood (6) and Texas (4).

In round six the Gremlins sides travel to Boggabilla to play McIntyre. Texas host Inglewood at Reg Saunders and the Tigers play Eastern Suburb Hornets at Rugby League Park Tenterfield. The Ladies games are scheduled for a 1.30pm kick off and all Mens games at 3pm.
