Starting aged care journey

Whether looking for basic supports like transport or need regular help to live independently in your own home, Government-funded aged care services can support you in your senior years. Here is some basic information to get you started.

What is in-home care?

In-Home Care (also known as home care, community care, home help, home support) is the umbrella term used to include a range of services that allows older people, to remain living independently in their own homes.

How can I receive government-subsidised aged care services?

The starting point for accessing Australian Government-funded aged care services is My Aged Care. You can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au

What is an assessment and how do I get one?

To access subsidised aged cares services, you need to get assessed by My Aged Care. Start by calling 1800 200 422 to get your eligibility checked. This is followed by an assessment, which is done in person at your own home, at your convenience. After your assessment, you will find out if you’re eligible for government-funded services – and which ones you’re eligible for.

What happens next?

To start accessing approved services you can get in touch with your local aged care service provider such as STAR Community Services. You can book a one on one consultation with STAR District Coordinator- Natalie Perrett. Call STAR 07 4527 4111 or visit us at our office on 163 Palmerin Street, Warwick. We are open Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 4.15 pm. STAR is here to assist you with your aged care journey.
