Bridge project set to start

Start date announced for bridge work.

A $1.065m project to upgrade the Homestead Road Bridge in Warwick is set to start in August weather permitting.

The flood mitigation and safety work, co-funded by the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program and Southern Downs Council will see the existing culvert upgraded to a single lane bridge crossing while also improving the approaches to reduce the risk and impact of flooding.

Council’s Manager Works James Varughese said he was looking forward to the project getting off the ground following the arrival of materials and availability of contractors.

“The Homestead Road Bridge has been identified as an area of concern for some time and we look forward to improving this vital piece of infrastructure for the local community,” Mr Varughese said.

“The project will improve road safety for residents and industry and also consider environmental impacts by ensuring minimum disturbance to the banks.

“During construction, the safety of road users and crews is paramount, and we encourage the community to follow the directions of on-site officers and signage to keep the site incident-free and the project on schedule.

“Road crews will help ensure that local residents in the area still have access to and from their properties, but there may be minor delays with stop/go arrangements which we will endeavour to keep to a minimum.

“The project is expected to be completed by the end of July, and Council appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience during construction.”
