BUSY SCHEDULE AT THE CROSS

It has all been happening at the Southern Cross Bowls Club. Firstly there was the monthly Turkey Triples Day this past week which was sponsored by Roy and Karen Lowe of Warwick Screenprinting and Embroidery.

The winners were team PMS, Paul Beaman, Margaret Wright and Stevie Wonder (Steve Ford).

Runners-up were Steve Tyter, Cita Weier and Wayne Foster.

The Last Past The Post prizes went to Phil Wagner, Lynn Collie and Kay Bloomfield.

Picking up loot in the Raffle were Cocky, Phil Wagner and Kev Creighton.

Saturday was the Presidents and Presentation day. The day began with social bowls followed by a BBQ lunch. The presentation to members for their various achievements over the past 12 ,months wrapped up the afternoon the past 12months.

Badges were presented for Mixed Fours (Pat Walker, Wayne Foster, Cita Weier and Clark Davidson).

Men’s Pairs (Steve Tyter and Wayne Foster).

B Grade Ladies Singles Runner-up – Merrylea Wilson. Winner – Lynn Collie.

Men’s B Grade Singles Runner-up – Barry Frame. Winner – Al Thornton.

Ladies A Grade Singles Runner-up – Merrylea Wilson. Winner – Linda Hartley.

Men’s A Grade Singles Runner-up Al Thornton. Winner – Steve Tyter.

The most coveted badges on the day were presented to Al Buse and Geoff Davis for achieving veteran bowlers’ status.

The winners of the “Spiders” competitions wereVal Gray and Vince Hemmings, proving you must have to have a special talent to land on a spider with your bowl.

Lucky number raffles were won by Kim Hankinson, Peter Klowss (two), Julie Buse, Reggie and Val Gray.

The Members draw of $30 was won by Dave Scotney, so it’s back to $20 next time round.

This Sunday it is the Cool Scarves & Silly Socks fun day. The fun begins at 1pm. Contact Clark 0427 673 277 to register. All welcome. Remember to wear your craziest gear.

Sunday 30 July – Jumper and Jazz Fours. It’s 9am start. Contact Clark to nominate your team.

THE SUMMIT BOWLS NOTES

Three games of triples were played on Saturday afternoon with the following – Greg Mugridge, Rod Newlands and Ray Spiller defeated Margaret Harvey, Eddie Zanatta and Alex Mattiazzi 13- 12.

Mary Zanatta, Keith Mungall and Rob Capellidre 12 all with Pam Moore, Rod Crome and Frank Taylor.

Artie White, Brian Brown and Tony Schubert scored a four shot win over Maree Ball, Phil Davis and Brian Wilmot. The score 16-12.

Nominations have opened for The Summit Men’s Two Bowl Triples which will be played on 5 August. Nominations will close on Saturday 29 July. More nominations are needed for this event.

The draw has been made for the pennants. The Summit first division team will be playing at Texas and the second division side will be playing at Tenterfield. Trial games are arranged for this Saturday. It is important that as many players as possible attend. Please note that names need to be in by 11.30 am for 12 start.

The Group three playoffs, in Chinchilla, are coming up soon.

The club wishes our players all the best in the playoffs.

Steve Martin and Mark Spiller will represent our district in the pairs and Darren Stanley, Rob Capelli, Steve Martin and Mark Spiller will represent the district in the fours.

Saturday 5 August – The Summit Bowl Triples 9.30 am start.

Saturday 12 August– Final pennant trial.

BUSY SCHEDULE AT WARWICK BOWLS CLUB

On Wednesday, (12/7), two Rinks of social bowls were played at the Warwick Bowls Club. Judging by the final scores the Games Director did a very good job with the selections.

Results: DHN, – Furness and Ken Hayes def. Barry Perks, Michael Dungey and Max Holder 18-17; Pamela Kerr, Pat Seipelt and John Ruhle def. M. Cirson, James White and Brian Black 20-18.

On Saturday (15/7) the Final of Club Selected Pairs was played, and social bowls were also played.

In the final Ray Southee and Craig Thurgate scored a very comfortable 38-21 win over Barry Perks and Brian Black.

Craig and Ray won 12 Ends while Brian and Barry won nine ends.

Craig and Ray led 12-10 on the 10th End, and then they scored an eight on the 13th, five on the 15th, four on the 18th and then six more on the 21st. Congratulations to Ray and on their win in the final and also to the runners up Barry and Brian.

In the social bowls Percy Cutmore, Edwin Welsh and Jim Rickard defeated Nat Kumseewad, Richard Tartan and Trevor Wright 18-15. Pat Seipelt and John Ruhle defeated Pamela Kerr and Ken Hayes 26-8.

The Self Selected Fours commence this Saturday.

The Call-up for round one is which will be the Semi Final is:-

Max Holder, John Ruhle, Ray Southee and Russell Bean v Jim Rickard, Richard Tartan, Ossie McPaul and Edwin Welsh.

Craig Thurgate, Phil Wagner, Brian Black and Pamela Kerr have the Bye.

JOHNNO AND PETER WIN SOCIAL BOWLS

Social mixed bowls were played at Warwick East on Saturday. Two games of triples were played. The equal winners were Peter Collis and Johnno Johnson. Thanks go to Gunter Nicklich who continues to sponsor our social games. Congratulations go to John Harslett who on the previous Saturday won the B Grade singles.

We look forward to having him competing in the A Grade singles next year.

There will be mixed social bowls this Saturday. Play starts at 1pm.

On Thursday 27/7 the club will hold the monthly pairs day. Play begins at 10am.

There are several club competitions coming up. Sign-up sheets for these competitions are on the noticeboard.

The open triples will be played Saturday 5/8

The open fours Saturday 2/9 and Sunday 3/9 (if necessary)

Open singles Saturday 30/9 and Sunday 1/10 (if necessary).

VERY QUIET ON STANTHORPE GREEN

It has been very quiet on the Social Bowls scene at the Stanthorpe Bowls Club recently. Only three games were played during the past week. On Wednesday (12/7)On Caroline Draper, Margaret Harvey and Dot Rankin did battle against Helen Jones, Colin Denning and Greg Hammond and defeated them by 23 shots to 16.

Saturday 15/7 there was just one game of triples and a game of pairs played and ironically both games finished in a draw.

Polly Lay, Bruno Stefanon and Jack Bell and played P. Lay, Barry Murphy and Greg Hammond. The game ending with a 17 all scoreline.

On an adjacent rink the game of pairs between Colin Denning and Brian Brown and the team of Dot Rankin and Len Girgenti, finished with scores of 13all at the end of play.

The club’s upcoming events include “Turkey Triples” Wednesday 2/8. Play commences at 10am.

2023 Veterans over 70’s competition and the open Consistency competition. The final of the “Club Champion” championship will also be played as soon as both players become available.
