Cast your eyes to the skies because the FAI F3A Championships are set to begin on 19 August, and it will be a battle of the best.

Fifty-nine pilots from 21 countries will go head to head at the Warwick Aerodrome in this aeromodelling event and F3A event secretary, James McAllen said it is a sport for the whole family to come and enjoy.

“We have teams coming in from Brazil to Japan, Switzerland to South Africa but what is really exciting is that some of the world’s best are from right here in Queensland,” James said.

F3A is a precision aerobatic sport where pilots must perform a set of manoeuvres to the highest standard in front of a panel of judges.

“There are a lot of different disciplines within aeromodelling, and F3A is a great introduction for those that might be wanting to learn more or to just watch and enjoy the competition as a family day out,” he said.

While the event will continue from 19 August until the finale and every day is open to the public at 8.15am, James recommends heading to the airfield on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 as this is when the best with fly.

Southern Downs Mayor, Vic Pennisi welcomes the event as it is set to put Warwick on the map for global eyes.

“The championships will see international competitors and spectators from across the country descend on the Southern Downs, which will be a great booster for the regional economy,” he said.

“As a destination for adrenaline-charged events, Warwick is the Horsepower Capital of Queensland and we are honoured to host the FAI F3A World Championships.” Cr Pennisi said.

With encouragement from the Mayor to witness the world class thrills of aeromodelling, this event is not something you would want to miss. So pack a picnic and head down to the Warwick Aerodrome, but don’t forget to look up!
