Bush dance helps the kids

The One Table Function Centre Warwick was transformed into a true blue celebration on Saturday 26 August as part of the BUSHkids Family Bush Dance fundraiser.

BUSHkids is a not-for-profit organisation that has been supporting the health and well-being of children and families in regional, rural and remote communities in Queensland for over 85 years.

Their goal is to ensure that all children in Queensland receive the necessary support to reach their full potential in life regardless of their circumstances or location and BUSHkids CEO, Carlton Meyn said they try to work with the community as much as possible, especially in Warwick.

“We always strive to invest back into the community, the events we hold we ensure the money raised we give back in some way,” Mr Meyn said.

The Bush Dance saw friends and family gather for some food and fun. The Band-o-coots brought the music for the night and the community did not hesitate to crowd the dance floor.

The money made from this event will be going to the Nature Play Area for Warwick which will be open on 21 September. The area will be used primarily for outdoor therapy intervention, playgroups and family support groups.

Spaces like this and an organisation like BUSHkids significantly benefit rural communities like Warwick, Mr Meyn said, because there are limited resources and long waitlists.

“With children, if they do not get the treatment and support at the right time then their development is delayed.

“We are working with families so they can help their children integrate into communities and also help with development issues,” Mr Meyn said.
