The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is inviting stakeholders to share their opinions on the Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grant Program, which allocates $10 million annually.

This initiative aims to support wine and cider producers by offering grants of up to $100,000 based on eligible cellar door sales from the previous financial year, with the goal of promoting tourism in Australia’s wine regions.

Dr Jared Greenville, acting deputy secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Policy, emphasised the importance of industry feedback in shaping the program’s future.

Since its launch in 2019, the Australian grape and wine industry has faced various challenges, including trade disruptions, natural disasters, workforce issues, and rising input costs. As a result, the program needs to adapt to these changing circumstances.

The consultation process will focus on reviewing the program’s objectives, eligibility requirements, and application process. DAFF will carefully consider all stakeholder feedback and subsequently provide a recommendation to the government regarding the program’s future operation.

“We want to ensure that, by the end of this consultation process, the government can make the best decision on the future of the Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grant Program,” Dr Greenville said.

He acknowledged the program’s success in supporting wineries, cellar door operations, and agritourism in Australia, attracting visitors from around the world to experience our unique wine regions.

However, given the industry’s recent challenges, it is crucial to assess whether the program adequately addresses these issues and delivers optimal outcomes.

Interested stakeholders are encouraged to provide their feedback through DAFF’s Have Your Say website until AEDT 5pm on 30 October, 2023.

This opportunity allows industry participants and other concerned parties to contribute their insights and help shape the future of the Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grant Program.
