Warwick’s Morgan Park Raceway is set to host round four of Australian Superbike Championships from 12-14 July next year after wowing organisers and competitors alike after 2023 round.

Motorcycling Australia CEO Peter Doyle said after producing “racing of an extraordinary level in 2023”, the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike event presented by Motul (ASBK), would return to Morgan Park Raceway in 2024.

“If this year’s superb racing is any guide, we are in for another amazing round at Morgan Park Raceway in 2024,” he said.

“The Warwick rounds of the ASBK Championship always manage to produce the goods, and Morgan Park will no doubt turn on the action.

“Again, we thank our partners like the Southern Downs Regional Council and Warwick District Sporting Car Club which help to deliver this international motorcycle racing to the region.”

Southern Downs Regional Council CEO Dave Burges welcomed the announcement with the event again expected to bring competitors and fans from around Queensland and Australia to the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.

“The 2023 ASBK event at Morgan Park was great for the region and we’re looking forward to supporting the 2024 event,” he said.

“This event contributes significantly to the regional economy by way of race participants together with their extensive teams and, the many racing spectators being drawn to the region.

“The positive impact on local accommodation and services is felt throughout the Southern Downs. The event further provides incalculable media exposure for the region as a whole and truly cements Warwick as “the Horsepower Capital of Australia”.

“Council has been collaborating with the Warwick District Sporting Car Club over the past two years to ensure the facilities at the track are of the standard required to support an international event such the ASBK.

“The Warwick District Sporting Car Club has prepared a master plan for further track and facility upgrades over the coming years and Council will support them wherever possible to ensure that Warwick continues to offer a world class facility attracting world class events.”

The Motorcycling Australia CEO said recent upgrades on- and off-track to Morgan Park Raceway had also boosted the credentials of the venue, helping to further cement itself as a staple on the ASBK calendar.

“As well as the non-stop action around the 2.967km layout, the 2024 event will feature loads of off-track activities to entertain the family, including pit walks, ‘Mini Moto come and try’ sessions, ASBK Trade Alley and the chance to meet their favourite ASBK riders with autograph sessions throughout the weekend,” he said.

“The 2023 Morgan Park round saw Mike Jones and Troy Herfoss putting on a show for the ages in the two Superbike races, especially in the second as the seasoned veterans pushed each other to the absolute limit.

“The Michelin Supersport class also produced wafer-thin winning margins, and the action in the other classes – Supersport 300, Yamaha Finance R3 Cup and OJC – was just as captivating.”

Morgan Park Raceway now joins Phillip Island (February 24-26), Sydney Motorsport Park (March 22-23) and Queensland Raceway (April 26-28) on the 2024 ASBK calendar, with further announcements to be made very soon.
