WATERWORTH AND McCOSKER MEDAL WINNERS

Stanthorpe Golfers teed off in the December Medal event on Saturday. Despite the weather forecast predicting showers conditions were perfect and a good field played the Stroke event sponsored by members Eric Ree and Santo Cavallaro.

Nikki Waterworth dominated the Ladies event returning the best nett and also the best gross score of the round. Waterworth had a solid round of 99 off the stick which translated to a nett 80 score which was good enough to lead the way in the Ladies event. One shot back on nett 81 was runner up Filomena Silver.

Mark McCosker booked his place in the 2024 Medal of Medallist round with a win in the Men’s event. McCosker is always very consistent with his scoring and rarely has a bad round. This was one of his better rounds and he finished with a winning score of nett 67. Mark always is very consistent with his scoring, very rarely having a bad round. In a similar result to the Ladies round the runner up Greg Fraser was just one shot away with a score of nett 68. Fraser always tries hard to beat his AGU handicap and this result should drop it by a few points.

Pin shots were shared by Mark Richards at three, Brendon Barker at 12 and Hamish Adam at 17. In the Ladies comp Lyn Ludlow collected the pin at 12 and Filomena Silver did best at 17.

Matt Penn claimed the Pro Pins at 1/10 and 5/14, Hamish Adam held 9/18 and in the Ladies event Helen Jones did best at 5/1.

Next Saturday the scheduled Single Stableford event will be sponsored by Aqua Rural. This is always a very popular day so be sure to jump on line and reserve your spot in the field to avoid disappointment.

STRORMS FAIL TO DAMPEN HOT SCORES

Storms throughout the week did their best to disrupt the Ladies competitions last week at the Warwick Club but they were not able to dampen either the players enthusiasm or cool some hot scores.

In the midweek round last Wednesday (29/11) Gwen Mills fired in another outstanding score of 40 points that had many other quite envious.

Runner up Anna Cox was another who played well scoring 37 points.

Anna’s handicap has reduced considerably this month, and Anna is now back to a single figure GA Handicap. Congratulations.

Mary Young won the front nine scoring 19 points but not before a a countback from Janine Stewart.

The rundown went to Roslyn Darton (35), Sharron Cooper, Di Macdonald, and Mary Young all on 34, Anne Lyons and Di Johnson (33). The pro pin was won by Anna Cox and shared with Roslyn, Narelle Norris, and Donna Keogh.

The winners of the two divisions of the Saturday and Midweek Medal rounds over the past 12 months qualified to play in the Medal Of Medalists on Saturday.

Congratulations to the 2023 Winner Anna Cox. It has been a busy time for Anna who has been busy being a caring farmer and watching for fires on the family property that golf has taken somewhat of a back seat recently however nothing was stopping her on Saturday. She backed up her good round on Wednesday with some great play on Saturday and she returned a great winning score of 73 nett.

It was her time to shine, and her name will be added to the prestigious Betty Phelan Memorial Honour Board for the third time.

Molly also had a great round of 75 nett and won the trophy of the day. Yvonne Pinington was the runner up with a score of 76 nett. Gwen continued her excellent form with a score of 76 nett and took the honours on the front nine.

Margaret Adcock won the pro pin, sharing with Melanie McLennan, Molly and Anna Cox.

Helen Olsen, Mary Young, Anne Lyons, Maris Carey, Ann Tomkins, and Jill Barnes were featured in the rundown.

Yesterday was the final midweek round of the year for the Ladies who played nine holes before returning to the clubhouse for their Christmas party at the Birdie Bar and Bistro.

The program this Saturday is now a Single Stableford. The Big W 4BBB has been rescheduled to a date to be advised in the New Year.

COCKRAM AND McGENNAN MEDAL WINNERS

A field of 57 golfers played the Warwick Golf December Monthly Medal event on Sunday. A single Stroke round once again sponsored by John Dee Meats. After the recent rain the course looks a picture and on Sunday conditions were ideal with only a slight breeze and no rain.

Eamon Cockram took the honours in the A Grade with a round of 67 nett one shot clear of runner up Adam Nielsen.

Brett McGennan shot he best of the day (nett 66 ) was a clear winner in the B grade Division finishing well clear of runner up Scott McLennan ( nett 71) after a countback.

WELLS A WINNER AT LANGHAM SLASHERS

A big field teed off in the Langham Slashers regular Sunday morning social comepitition sponsored by Club Warwick RSL.

The weather gods were on the side of the golfers and following the recent rain the fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Unfortunately the course conditions did not enhance the end result for some of the field.

Wayne Wells shot a nett 21 to claim bragging rights and the Club Warwick RSL dinner voucher. Hot on his heels was runner up Brendan Landrigan following a countback from Gerry Morrisey and Grant Ollerton.

Landrigan missed out on overall honours but did shoot the best gross (36) of the round. Again this was after he edged out Jesse Ollerton in a countback.

Mark Simmonds turned around his poor form with the putter the previous week and won the Least Putts (11) on a countback (yes another) from Jesse Ollerton. Ollerton finally nailed a win when the Longest Drive comepitition was substitute with the “Straightest Drive”. This was much to the disappointment of Leigh Nisbet who was sure he had the prize in the bag.

Ollerton was Nearest the Pin at the fifth. Brendan Landrigan held the seventh and the ninth went unclaimed.

Bringing up the rear claiming the Bradman Ball and the Most Putts was Doug Millard with a 39 and 22 respectively. But not before a count back from Leigh Nisbet who certainly did not have his best ever round.
