Raffles, speakers and bottles

By Kaylene Williams

So with Christmas and New Year over, it’s time to start back with helping women and girls in Australia and around the world to have dignity and opportunity with the Allora Days for Girls kits.

In order to keep our work going we need to fundraise so we will be holding a multi-draw raffle as part of the Allora Heritage weekend at the Allora showgrounds on Saturday 27 January. First prize is a wheelbarrow full of goods and many other prizes as well. Tickets are $2 each or $5 for 3.

At the gathering on the 27 November, we had a guest presenter – Gabrielle (Gay) Samson who gave us an insight into her travels and experiences in some of the areas where our packs may be distributed. It was a great presentation and well attended. We also managed to pack another 60 kits packed which means we have 120 on hand for future distribution. We are doing this so if there is a short notice request for kits, then we have some on hand.

Following on from the Heritage weekend, our next gathering will be Monday 29 January. Given we have just had a large amount of knickers delivered, there will be plenty to do. Sewers and non-sewers are welcome to attend. Start time is 9am.

Can’t think of what to do with all those empty bottles and cans that have accumulated over Christmas and New Year. Please consider donating them to Allora Days for Girls through the cash for containers scheme. Our registration number is: C10749279.

Gatherings are held at the Function Room, MacKillop House, Warwick St, Allora, next to St Patricks Church, entry via McKillop Lane. The meetings are currently being held on the last Monday of the month due to other hall commitments. Please park in Warwick Street. Coffee and tea provided. Please bring along something for morning tea. We hope to see you then.
