News from The Summit

A team with players from The Summit and Southern Cross is set to represent the district following the Southern Downs Men’s Fours titles held at the Summit Bowls Club at the weekend.

The team of Glen Preston (The Summit), Cameron Wilson (Southern Cross) and Adrian Jackson and Jamie Zamprogno both from The Summit defeated another mixed Summit/Southern Cross skipped by Eliseo Zamprogno 23-20 to move into the zone finals in July.

Twelve teams participated in sectional play on Saturday. Winners of the sections were – Section one: Johno Johnson (Warwick East), George Little (Tenterfield), Aaron McKinney (Warwick East) and Adam Tozer (Warwick East); Section two: Darren Stanley, Matthew Murphy, Mark Spiller and Steve Martin – all members of The Summit – Section three – Barry Zeibell (Southern Cross) and Dale Callaghan, Frank Taylor and Eliseo Zamprogno all from the Summit with the eventual winners skipped by Jamie Zamprogno, the next best qualifier.

The semi-finals and final were played on Sunday. In the first semi-final Eliseo Zamprognos’ team defeated the team skipped by Steve Martin 18 shots to 15. This was a keenly contested game and Eliseo’s team fought back after being well behind early in the game. In the second semi-final the Team skipped by Jamie Zamprogno proved too strong for the team skipped by Adam Tozer winning 29 shots to 7. This game was won by the first two players Glen Preston and Cameron Wilson who set the heads up well for their teammates.

The final between Jamie’s Team and Eliseo’s team featured another close game. This time Jamie’s team made a good start and lead early. Towards the end of the game Eliseo’s team had led 18 shots to 16. Jamie’s team scored a four on the next end and managed to hold on for the last four ends to win 23 shots to 20.

Nominations are now open for the District Men’s pairs. Flyers and nomination forms are available in the clubs also nominations are open for The Summit Open Two Bowl Triples to be held on Sunday, 18 February.

Warwick East bowlers return to the greens

Warwick East bowls club’s activities are back in full swing again with the first monthly pairs day set for today, Thursday, 25 January with an earlier start time of 9am.

There will be social bowls on again on Saturday, with play starting at 1 pm while on Thursday, 1 February the monthly triples competition starts again, with play also at 9 am.

Friday night bowls has already resumed with play starting at 6pm each week with names to be in by 5.30pm. Two games of pairs were played on Friday with Peter Collis and Bill Lee winning.

The Saturday social bowls were a bit light on at the weekend with many of the club’s players competing in the District Fours. Two games of triples were played and the equal overall winners were Gunter Nicklich and Peter Dipplesman. In the District Fours the club’s team of Aaron McKinney, Adam Tozer, Johnno Johnson and David Butz won their section, but were defeated in the finals.
