From state to local, Joel Richters is seeking election

Two time former labor candidate for the Southern Downs Joel Richters is seeking a term in the local council.

Two time former labor candidate for the state electorate of Southern Downs, Joel Richters, has announced his candidacy for the upcoming local government elections.

Joel has promised to a higher standard for council representation and believes the electorate expects more from their elected officials. A council not focused on delivering for every single resident is letting good opportunities go to waste.

Promising to not engage in battle via the independent assessor on frivolous complaints, instead Joel commits to respect across the chamber with a can do attitude.

“The spiralling housing situation has escaped our current council with the situation having little prospect of getting any better if we continue down the path we are on now,” Joel said.

“You should expect more from our council when it comes to affordable and social housing, noting the success that our neighbours have had by being proactive.”

Joel was a key advocate in April 2019 that encouraged Southern Downs Regional Council to record their meetings and make them available to the public. Although more can be done around transparency.

This includes the reporting and responding of road conditions, and open disclosure to the public about what actions are being taken.

Over the next few weeks Joel will be talking to many residents about what more you expect from your council. He hopes to hear from you about what’s important to you.
