Locals bid farewell to Lex

By JONATHON HOWARD

OBITUARY
MORE than 200 Southern Downs’ residents celebrated the life of Alexander Arthur “Lex” Wilson at a funeral service hosted by the Warwick Baptist Church on Tuesday, 25 June.
Described by his wife Jean as “a caring man”, Lex was born in 1925 and raised in Pratten.
He was 88 years old when he passed away due to complications with his heart.
“Lex always said no-one would turn up to his funeral,” Mrs Wilson said.
“It was so nice to see so many people at the service and I’d like to sincerely thank all who attended and thank you for the kind words and cards.”
Mrs Wilson said the response from residents had helped her, and her family, cope with the loss.
“It helped in so many ways to make Lex’s passing easier for the family,” she said.
“You are all greatly appreciated and please accept this as our personal thank you.”

THE following poem was written as a tribute to the late Lex Wilson by Don Ludlow with music performed by Kylie Ludlow.

LEX
He was rich with life though in health poor,
And the shadow was often at his door.
But the Lord said, “No this man is mine,
I have redeemed his life, I have redeemed his time.”
But life is not measured in hours or days,
In months or years or other such ways.
But in its power to overcome, and the love it shares.
By the strength of its bonds and the fruit that it bears.
He could lift you up by the shake of a hand,
And crown your day with a smile giving warmth unplanned
And his eyes though bright with the wisdom of the aged
Still flashed the merry twinkle of the ageless.
But Heaven’s days are endless, yet not those here below,
And though it’s not forever, some must stay and some must go.
But those that stay will one day go and we look toward the day
When all are gathered, and and old, those that go and those that stay.
And in my mind I see a porch with vistas of a heavenly place
Where we sit quietly – once again face to face.
As he tells once more how hesus came and walked him to the gate,
And his hand on shoulder said, “you made it Lex, well done mate.”
