Dinner to honour soldier settlers

Join Amiens History Association for their fundraising dinner.

The Amiens History Association is gearing up for its much-anticipated fundraising dinner. This event is a unique opportunity to delve into the history of the Soldier Settlements and honour the perseverance of those who lived through those challenging times.

The evening will feature a meal prepared by renowned chef Jason Costanzo, known for his exceptional culinary skills. Attendees are in for a treat with what promises to be a memorable dining experience.

Adding to the significance of the night, the guest speaker will be Wayne Swan, former Labor politician and direct descendant of David Temple Swan, a soldier settler after whom Swan’s Lane in Amiens is named.

Swan’s talk will focus not on politics, but on the legacy of the Soldier Settlements and the tough lives endured by the settlers. This is a chance for guests to gain insight into the hardships and resilience of those who shaped the history of Amiens.

To ensure everyone can fully enjoy the evening, including having a drink or two, a bus service will be available from Stanthorpe.

Spaces are limited for this event, so early booking is essential to secure your spot. The event’s details, including contact information and the evening’s menu, can be found on the attached poster.

The Association extends its heartfelt thanks to Kent’s Saddlery for the generous loan of their large marquee, which will be used for the event. Additional sponsors have also contributed to making this evening possible, with more details about their support to be shared later.

The event takes place on Saturday, 21 September 2024, at the Amiens Legacy Centre, 17 Goldfields Road, Amiens.
