THEY sought him here, they sought him there, but Jeremy Clarkson wasn’t anywhere.
Mr Clarkson, a host of the top rating TV show Top Gear is one of those people you’d most like/least like to meet, but despite a loud revving of rumours no one in Warwick had the pleasure, or pain.
The rumour that Mr Clarkson was about to drive a V8 Supercar around the Morgan Park circuit was apparently started by a metropolitan newspaper, but Warwick journalists expended a great deal of effort, and words this past week trying to confirm whether or not he was in town. Even photos from a helicopter didn’t help their cause.
As it happened, the filming was about a new version of the Forza Motorsport game on Xbox. So concerned were the organisers of the filming at the Clarkson rumour that they boosted security to keep locals out of their shots.
Finally it was up to Mr Clarkson himself to deny the rumours – from Italy, a long way from Morgan Park.
“I keep hearing about this. Rumours not true,” he tweeted.
Now, about that rumour that Prince Harry will visit Stanthorpe…
