Diagnosis for mayor

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council mayor Peter Blundell will be back home in the next few days after ongoing test results revealed he has a manageable condition called Sarcoidosis.
Following successful heart surgery in December last year, Cr Blundell had come back to work in January but doctors had asked him to return to the Mater Private Hospital on 11 February for further testing on his lungs.
Yesterday Cr Blundell, his partner Sarah Reeves and his family received confirmation that the diagnosis is Sarcoidosis.
“We are extremely relieved at the diagnosis which, though requiring careful management, is easily treatable with steroids,” Cr Blundell said.
“I am recovering well and although the recovery time will be two weeks, Sarah and I are both looking forward to coming home.
“I would like thank all those who have offered support, and particular those friends and family who have made the effort to visit me in hospital – it has kept my spirits up and certainly helps recovery.
“I can assure everyone that I will be around for a while longer and that my health will be back to normal in a matter of weeks, whereupon I look forward togetting back into work.”
“It has been a frustrating and long wait to get answers, however the doctors and nursing staff have been first rate and I would particularly like to thank them for the extremely professional way they have conducted this investigation,” he said.
