Recycling for sight

WARWICK Lions Club has 153 million reasons to be collecting used eyeglasses.
That’s the number of people in poor countries in need of them, according to the World Health Organisation.
“Here in Warwick we have the cooperation of at least two collection points for recycling eyesight glasses: At My Optical – Paul Morrissey Optician in Grafton Street and Chas Sankey Fraser in Palmerin Street,” Lions Club spokesman Con Lo Giudice said.
Mr Guidice said former Lions Club president Jim Samios, of Samios Mini Mart, volunteers in collecting the recyclable eyeglasses on behalf of the club.
He said Lions Recycling for Sight has collected approximately four million pairs of spectacles over the past decade, and Australia’s 1000 Lions and Lioness Clubs collect about 500,000 pairs annually.
Another 50,000 pairs of sunglasses are collected for recycling and sent to Lions’ Multiple District Centre (MDC) in Clontarf, Queensland.
