MORE than a hundred students at St Joseph’s Catholic School in Tenterfield were served rice for morning tea in a bid to raise money for overseas people living in poverty.
Principal Geraldine Holland said the fund-raiser last Tuesday was all part of Catholic Schools Week.
“The Year 5-6 students cooked up more than 15 kilograms of rice which was served to the whole school as morning tea”, she said.
“We hoped students would get a great insight into poverty and the small amount of food some children in our world have to eat for the whole day”.
St Joseph’s students also raised money on Monday by selling homemade cup-cakes.
Mrs Holland said students ran a stall at the school to sell the patty cakes to other students, parents and members of the community plus a fair with games and bowling.
Catholic Schools week culminated in concert for parents. All money raised by St Joseph’s during Catholic Schools Week goes to Catholic aid organisations.
